Who is Serge Labesque?

Serge Labesque has been providing monthly beekeeping advice columns for several years to local bee clubs throughout Central California. He has also taught several day-long beekeeping classes in Monterey, Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties.

Serge is originally from France, and was a meteorologist before moving to California. He now lives in Glen Ellen, CA.

Serge maintains bee colonies in Sonoma County. He practices beekeeping through techniques that allow beekeepers to be self-sufficient practitioners by relying on the natural strength of local strains of bees and without using any treatment for pest and disease control.

Serge is an active member of the Sonoma County Beekeepers’ Association. He teaches beekeeping classes at Santa Rosa Junior College and in many other venues, where he shares his experience and opinions on beekeeping. He was the recipient of the Western Apicultural Society 2006 Thurber Award for Inventiveness, and in 2009 of the Sonoma County Beekeepers’ Association Award of Excellence.
